Yes, it's tricky! I think I would stop short of absolutely debarring Board from chairing precisely because sometimes something unexpected like that comes up, so we need to be a bit flexible. But definitely not the ideal, because boy do I know how hard chairing is! Hopefully you'll be able to mentor someone into taking over as chair halfway through - maybe you can have a cochair?
